Missing Lake County scuba diver’s body located

The body of a 72-year-old Lake County man who went missing while scuba diving Tuesday at the S.S. Wisconsin shipwreck in Lake Michigan was recovered Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The diver was identified as Patrick Kelly of Winthrop Harbor, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

Kelly had been diving about six miles offshore from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, in water more than 120 feet deep, when he did not resurface as scheduled to do so at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. His wife, who was on board their vessel, sent out a distress call requesting immediate help.

The search involved several agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and the Pleasant Prairie Fire Department. Kelly’s body was located at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on the bottom of the lake, about 125 feet deep, officials said.
