Lincolnshire-area man charged with indecent solicitation of a child
A 60-year-old Lake County man was charged with indecent solicitation of a child after showing a 7-year-old girl pornography and trying to molest her during a Labor Day party near Mundelein, authorities said.
Benedicto M. Aviles, of the 15300 block of West Apple Orchard Lane near Lincolnshire, also was charged with attempted predatory sexual assault of a child and may face additional charges, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s detectives working with the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center determined that, during the party, Aviles offered to take the girl swimming, officials said.
But instead of going to the pool, Aviles began showing the child pornographic videos and tried to assault her, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The situation was interrupted when the girl’s mother called for her after not seeing the child in the pool, the release said. The girl told her mother what happened after Aviles left; the mother immediately contacted authorities.
Aviles was staying elsewhere and wasn’t found immediately, but he was taken into custody and charged Tuesday, the release stated.
A Lake County judge Wednesday morning ordered Aviles held in the Lake County jail pending a detention hearing scheduled for today.
The sheriff’s office has a full-time detective dedicated to the Children’s Advocacy Center, which plays a crucial role in supporting children affected by sexual abuse and other crimes, according to Sheriff John D. Idleburg.
