Methodist church hosts Green Harvest Potluck Supper on Sept. 22

Green Harvest Supper: A meal for change

First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights will host a free potluck-style dinner on Sunday Sept. 22. The supper will include savory dishes and sweet desserts, with much of the produce grown locally. In addition to food, there will be information, fun activities for all ages and stages, and live music.

The event includes eco-tips and resources for food, home and fashion, as well as art from local craftspeople. Greener Good, our local “creative reuse shop,” will have a sampling of art, craft, office and school supplies available at the store for low prices. SWANCC will share recycling tips. Find out about reducing food waste and composting options. Kids activities will highlight crafts from repurposed items. If you have stained or torn clothing to dispose of, you may bring it for textile recycling on-site.

Some of our environmentally focused local leaders will be joining us to share ideas to make our community more green. Dinner guests are invited to chat with those folks and share their own ideas over supper.

Green Harvest Supper is hosted by the church’s Green Team. The team has been instrumental in leading the church to be “green” in all of its activities: using real dishes and silverware when we serve PADS dinners, JAM meals, and at coffee hour; composting food waste; installing solar panels and LED lights; and recycling.

Thom Frerk of the Green Team summed up their goal: “Our supper and our activities embrace the growing trend and need to be greener partners with our environment.”

This nondenominational supper will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 22, at First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights.

The supper is free and open to the public. RSVP at fumcah.com/events by Sept. 16. Your RSVP helps them plan.
