Waste decision pushes city back

It was a sad night recently when a majority of Elgin City Council members ignored Mayor Kaptain’s wise advice and canceled Waste Management’s contract. Waste Management is a magnificent company which adapted their trucks to run on renewable natural gas extracted from landfills.

WM cares about our environment and their mission is to “minimize and even eliminate environmental impact.” WM served Elgin faithfully for decades and they deserve better than to be thrown out like garbage.

Shame on you, council members and good luck with the diesel trucks that will soon be chugging down our streets. Mayor Kaptain was forward looking, but the obstinate members of the council transported Elgin back to the past-way back.
