GPS speaker to celebrate leadership skills and highlight overcoming challenges Sept. 17

FUSE: Families United in Support of Excellence for all, especially students that identify as African American, Black or biracial and the GPS Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will host VaLarie Humphrey in a program titled “Own Your Own Future.”

This event will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn. Go to the GPSparentseries.org for details.

Humphrey will share her personal life story of encountering and overcoming challenges as an adolescent. In this family presentation, she will offer a blueprint for a happy, healthy, high-functioning life. Teens will be encouraged to set goals; demonstrate resilience; navigate setbacks; and better understand how their efforts lead to future success. Adults will learn how to help children overcome obstacles; grow to their full potential; and use their gifts to achieve their dreams.

Humphrey is an educator, DISC certified trainer and facilitator and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion advocate. She is an adjunct professor at Aurora University, student success coordinator at Addison Trail High School and international director of education at School Days with Eric Thomas LLC.
