Lombard to host 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and blood drive
The village of Lombard invites the community to join in honoring the memory of those lost during the tragic events of 9/11 at a remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The ceremony will take place at the Public Safety Plaza, outside village hall at 255 E. Wilson Ave. It will pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the attacks on New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
“As we come together to remember the events of Sept. 11, we stand united in our promise to never forget the sacrifices made and the lives lost on that day,” said Lombard Fire Chief Rick Sander.
Patriot Day, also known as September 11th Day, is a National Day of Service and Remembrance in the United States. It has been observed annually since 2001 and is recognized by law.
In conjunction with the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, the village of Lombard is joining organizations nationwide to encourage blood donations to honor those who lost their lives.
The village will be hosting the “We Remember” blood drive on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at two locations:
• Yorktown Center in the donor bus parked on the lower-level mall entrance outside of Von Maur from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Community drive from 1:30 to 7 p.m. at First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St. Free radon tests will be offered by Radonova, Inc. between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
