Hanover Township Mental Health Board approves funding
The Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $30,976.50 in funding at its Aug. 27 meeting at the Town Hall.
The board awarded $25,000 in Capital Funding to Summit School, Inc., to assist with the cost of replacing windows at their facility in Elgin. Summit School provides early intervention services to township preschoolers to assist with diagnosed developmental delays or identified educational vulnerabilities.
The Ecker Center for Behavioral Health received $3,000 in Staff Development funds for personnel to receive crisis de-escalation training as well as to develop a training program for agency staff to become certified to provide nonviolent crisis intervention training internally. Ecker serves over 1,000 township residents annually.
About Behavioral Change was also awarded Staff Development funding in the amount of $2,099 for personnel to attend training for substance abuse and mental health clinical practices. The agency provides counseling services to the community in various areas including substance abuse, domestic violence, gambling, and anger management, among others.
The board awarded $877.50 in Capital Funding to Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley for the purchase of physical therapy equipment at the Elgin facility. This equipment will allow agency therapists to provide neuromuscular stimulation for muscles and increase range of motion and sensory awareness. Easterseals currently serves 1,514 clients at the Elgin location.
The mental health board also approved an agreement with Northern Illinois University Center for Governmental Studies to conduct a community needs assessment. The board is required by the Illinois Community Mental Health Act to conduct an assessment every three years. Results of the assessment will be used to develop a new three-year strategic plan to begin April 1, 2025, and to conclude March 31, 2028.
The Hanover Township Mental Health Board will meet next at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, at the Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.
Hanover Township serves over 100,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
