CTA has a gift on O’Hare stop’s 40th
It’s been 40 years of CTA rides to O’Hare International Airport, and the agency is celebrating with a blast from the past.
From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, riders can step aboard vintage 6000-series rail cars at the Blue Line’s O’Hare station for a 15-minute ride to Rosemont Yard and back. Regular fares apply.
The Blue Line extension to the airport was completed in 1984 and opened up an inexpensive and traffic-free way to catch a flight. The 6000-series rail cars were built in the 1950s and retired in 1992.
