Bell, Naperville North roll past New Trier
Naperville North 42, New Trier 14: The Huskies started their season with a nonconference road win behind quarterback Jacob Bell’s 5 touchdowns, four through the air.
New Trier grabbed the early lead on the game’s first possession. On 3rd-and-13, Ryan Ambrosino scored on a 27-yard screen pass from Patrick Heneghan.
North answered with a 39-yard bomb from Bell to Brock Pettaway. A fumbled snap on extra point left the Huskies down 7-6.
Bell put the Huskies ahead soon after, stretching the ball across the goal-line on a keeper for a 2-yard TD with 9:50 left in the second quarter. William Eloe ran in the 2-point conversion for a 14-7 lead on a drive set up on Daniel Manning's sack to force a fumble recovered by Jackson Williams.
Bell threw two more touchdown passes before halftime, a 30-yard slant to Quinn Morris and a 41-yard strike to Morris.
New Trier cut the lead to 28-14 in the third quarter before the Huskies put the game away in the fourth with a 5-yard touchdown run by Eloe and a 16-yard touchdown pass from Bell to Chico Thomas.
Bell, a Ball State recruit, finished 18 of 27 passing for 270 yards.
Qrizniquolas Somoza and Gabriel Hill both had 2 sacks; the Huskies had 7 as a team. Edward Mumford made an acrobatic interception that set up Naperville North’s final first-half touchdown.
