Applications for Batavia Boardwalk Shops open Sept. 5

Batavia MainStreet is inviting budding businesses to apply for one of the 10 Batavia Boardwalk Shops spaces available.

Applications for the popular business incubator spaces are due by Dec. 15. The cluster of 12-foot by 12-foot shops is located on the corner of Wilson and River Streets in Batavia. For more information or to apply visit https://downtownbatavia.com/vendor-application/.

The Batavia Boardwalk Shops program is designed to attract small businesses, create more retail shopping, and bring people into downtown Batavia.

“This season we’ve had visitors from 180 unique ZIP codes shop the Boardwalk,” said Batavia MainStreet Assistant Director Kristen Desler.

Over the last five seasons, the Batavia Boardwalk Shops has had 21 businesses move to a permanent location, with 10 currently occupying brick-and-mortar spaces in downtown Batavia.

“We will be holding our first Virtual Q&A for interested vendors on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m.,” Desler said. “This is a great opportunity for those considering applying to learn more about the program from Batavia MainStreet directors, former tenant and Boardwalk Committee member, and get business advice from Waubonsee Community College’s Small Business Development Center expert.”

Email info@downtownbatavia.com for a link to join the Q&A.

The shops are scheduled to begin their sixth season on May 9, 2025, and allow business owners to rent space, showcase their wares and services, and learn how to successfully manage a store.

“We are looking for variety in our existing downtown retail,” Desler said.

Applicants will be invited for interviews with members of the jury committee this fall and 2025 tenants will be selected no later than Jan. 1. Previous Boardwalk businesses can reapply but are not guaranteed a shop, depending on jury evaluation.
