Celebrate Labor Day weekend at the Downtown Batavia Block Party & Taste of Batavia on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The party from 4 to 9 p.m. will feature live music, a car show, pie bake-off, and free kids’ fun area. Admission is $5 for age 21 or older, and free for kids. The Block Party will be along the riverwalk at the Peg Bond Center, and you'll find the car show across the way on North River Street.

The Block Party will feature performances by the Batavia Academy of Dance, and live music from Elvis tribute artist David Fraccaro and the rock cover band ORDrocks. There also will be a free Family Zone hosted by Congregational Church of Batavia.

Enjoy drink and food specials with $3 “Tastes” from Pal Joeys Restaurant, Sidecar Supper Club & Beer Garden, WindMill Grille & Pizzeria, Grainology Batavia, Haylie B’s Bakery, Wilson Street Tavern, Thai Village Restaurant, Thorabella's, Sturdy Shelter Brewing, and Kernel Dan's Kettle Corn.

The Batavia Mothers' Club Foundation is again hosting a pie bake-off. The registration fee is $10 per baker; this includes admission for one adult, 21 or older, into the event. Register at downtownbatavia.com/event/batavia-block-party-2/. Entries must be dropped off at the Block Party from 4-4:30 p.m. There are two categories: fruit and non-fruit pies. Judging will take place at 5 p.m. with the winners announced at 5:45 p.m.

The Batavia Depot Museum is bringing history storytelling to the streets of Batavia with the Wayback Wheels Car Show from 4 to 9 p.m. on North River Street. Remember to vote for “People’s Choice” and “History on the Road” awards. The museum’s popular open-air trolley will also be on display.

Car enthusiasts can share the love for your ride, and tell stories of your car’s history by signing up early on the website. The $15 registration fee goes toward the People’s Choice awards. It includes one adult entry to the Block Party, and benefits the Batavia Depot Museum.

The annual event is hosted by Batavia MainStreet, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Visit facebook.com/bataviamainstreet.
