Bell Works Chicagoland in Hoffman Estates will soon truly earn its self-applied moniker of “Metroburb” by adding a residential component in the form of 164 high-end townhouses to its multipurpose commercial redevelopment of the sprawling former AT&T headquarters building. Preparations only await the issuing of a building permit now that an updated and slightly revised approval has been made of the site plan first given the green light in February 2023.

Developer asks for $109 million in aid for controversial Sugar Grove proposal

A developer is seeking $109 million in aid for the proposed The Grove development in Sugar Grove, according to a redevelopment agreement the village board is considering. The village board will vote on the proposed annexation agreement, zoning requests and whether the property qualifies to be a tax increment financing district on Sept. 3.

Controversial housing plan moves forward in Arlington Heights

A controversial plan for an apartment building for people with disabilities who otherwise could face homelessness is moving forward in Arlington Heights — but at two stories instead of three. At the end of a roughly five-hour meeting, a divided village board early Tuesday voted to direct village staffers to prepare the final documents for the proposed Grace Terrace development at 1519 S. Arlington Heights Road. The 4-acre site is vacant now.

Path forward for Liberty Theater site? Village ‘committed’ to improving downtown gateway

Although a key requirement was narrowly rejected by the village board last week, there may be a path forward for redevelopment of the former Liberty Theater and property as a northern gateway to downtown Libertyville. The village is looking forward to bringing new life to the property, but the next step hasn’t been determined.

Huntley announces location for business incubator shops downtown

Huntley is rolling out plans for incubator shops in its downtown area. The village plans to convert the Hackett House on Main Street to house the shops, branded as “The Grove on Main.” The house, which the village purchased in 2013, now is home to Naturally McHenry County, whose lease expires in March, according to village documents.

Stephen J. Harper, the former prime minister of Canada, will headline Judson University’s World Leaders Forum Oct. 3 in Elgin. Harper was Canada’s 22nd prime minister. He created the modern Conservative Party of Canada, won three successive national elections, and was the longest serving Conservative prime minister. He will share his expertise in leadership, economic strategies, and global affairs.
