Naperville seeks high school students to serve on city boards
High school sophomores, juniors and seniors who live in Naperville are invited to apply to fill student positions on various city boards and commissions and a leadership academy presented by KidsMatter.
There are 24 seats available on 12 boards and commissions, including the Historic Preservation Commission, Human Rights and Fair Housing Commission, Naper Settlement Museum Board and the Naperville Public Library Board. Each commission or board has two student seats available.
“Serving on a board or commission is a valuable opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience in public service and volunteerism,” Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli said. “Their fresh perspectives are an asset as we work together, as a community, to shape Naperville’s future.”
KidsMatter will host the Leadership Academy kickoff on Oct. 26 for selected students at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. The Leadership Academy provides leadership skills training, familiarizes students with meeting protocols and helps participants create peer connections.
Students should review the city’s boards and commissions guide at naperville.il.us/boards before applying. Student representatives will serve until May and must attend 75% of scheduled meetings.
To apply, students should click the “apply” button on the appropriate board or commission page. All applications must be submitted by Sept. 9.
