Hopes for GOP sinking

This letter is a response to Kathy Salvi’s guest commentary on Monday.

I am a Republican. I was a precinct captain, a delegate to the 2016 and 2020 state conventions, and worked on Republican campaigns. I was the statewide volunteer coordinator for Richard Irvin in 2022. I have met Mrs. Salvi and know her to be a good person. It is unfortunate that our new chairwoman is playing the same old worn-out talking points.

“Crime, corruption, moral decay,” all while she and the party defend Donald Trump, the worst thing that has happened to the Illinois Republican Party. Her article sounds like a captain of a sinking ship telling us we are not sinking.

The Illinois Republican Party is worse off than it was just 10 years ago. I fear it will never be relevant again. Our chairwoman's comments give me no hope it will.
