Man charged with recklessly shooting gun in St. Charles
A man has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal after a gun was shot Wednesday afternoon on the east side of St. Charles.
St. Charles police arrested Kyle Burnett, 36, of Aurora, according to a news release.
Police said they were called at 12:50 p.m. to the 1500 block of East Main Street to investigate a report of gunshots. The caller, police said, told them a man and two women, including one holding a small child, were walking between a hotel and a strip mall.
The caller said they saw the man accidentally or negligently fire the gun, according to police.
Nobody was injured.
Burnett is charged with being an armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon on parole, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge of a weapon and endangering the life or health of a child.
Kane County prosecutors have asked that he be detained pretrial. According to police, Burnett was scheduled to have a detention hearing Thursday.
Kane County jail records indicate Burnett lives in the 1000 block of East New York Street.
