Des Plaines man assaulted two girls, police say

A Des Plaines man is being held in Cook County jail after being charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, authorities said Wednesday.

Jacob Witmer, 48, of the 1300 block of Everett Avenue, was arrested Monday morning.

Two girls were assaulted the same day in September 2023, a Des Plaines police spokesman said. Witmer was a family friend of the girls, police said.

Witmer was ordered held after a detention hearing Tuesday, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in the Skokie branch of Cook County circuit court on Sept. 12.
