Habitat for Humanity to break ground for 75th Aurora-area home
Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity will break ground for its 75th Aurora-area home on Saturday, Aug. 24.
The event will take place at 1921 Jericho Road in Aurora, site of its 17-home Green Freedom subdivision. After networking and refreshments at 9 a.m., a ceremony with participants turning shovels of dirt will take place at 9:30 a.m.
The project is a Habitat Faith Build, with multiple area faith communities contributing donations and volunteers.
The home in partnership with future owners Humberto and Mireya home is Habitat's 75th in Aurora, North Aurora, Batavia and Montgomery. Attendees should bring lawn chairs.
The project is part of a Habitat partnership begun in 2022 with Nicor Gas and Southern Company to develop a Smart Neighborhood™ affordable housing community in Aurora as a pathway to strength, stability and independence through home ownership.
The planned community will have 17 single-family, net-zero homes equipped with a combination of renewable, electric and natural gas technologies. Eligible residents will enjoy freedom from expensive mortgages and high energy bills, while reducing their carbon footprint.
