New police chief coming aboard in Barrington Hills
Kyle Murphy is set to trade his Wilmette police chief’s badge for a Barrington Hills model.
Murphy is set to become Barrington Hills’ new police chief next week.
Murphy was one of nearly 50 applicants from around the country for the post, officials said in a news release. He’ll succeed Joseph Colditz, who retired in late July.
Officially, Village President Brian D. Cecola will nominate Murphy for the job. It’ll be up to the village board to ratify that nomination when it meets Monday.
“I am looking forward to working with Chief Murphy and have no doubt that he will lead the department with the exceptional standard of police service that the village prides itself on,” Cecola said in a news release.
Murphy has spent his entire career in Wilmette, joining as a police officer in 1995. He rose through the ranks over time and was named chief in 2017.
He’s also served as supervisor of the Major Crimes Task Force.
Murphy said he’ll be honored to be Barrington Hills’ chief.
“I am committed to building upon the foundation of trust and excellence that has been established, and I look forward to serving the community with integrity and dedication,” Murphy said in the village’s news release.
Salary information wasn’t available this week but should be once Murphy is sworn in, officials said.
Colditz served as Barrington Hills’ police chief for five years. He’d been with the department since 1998. Sgt. David Kann has served as interim police chief.
