Columnist either too cute or delusional

Debra Saunders’ recent column expressing surprise and dismay by Trump’s undisciplined behavior is laughable. Really? Anyone who’s surprised by Trump’s behavior is either asleep at the switch or completely disingenuous.

Her other comment accusing principled Republicans (e.g., Liz Cheney and Adam Kinsinger, who bucked the MAGA cult at great cost) of “virtue signaling” is also rich. These people have rejected Trump because he has an abhorrent personal character (convicted felon, sex offender, multiple indictments) who encouraged an insurrection, disrespects the military and makes a mockery of the Constitution by indicating he aspires to be a dictator. Rejecting Trump is an act of patriotism — not empty “virtue signaling.”

Finally, Ms. Saunders’ assertion that she likes Trump’s policies is naive at best.

Trump has only one policy — self-promotion. His goals are to avoid prison and enrich himself. He has no core political beliefs or ideas. He is driven solely by narcissism.

Ms. Saunders is either trying to be too-cute-by-half or is deluding herself. I hope she — and anyone else supporting Trump — gets a grip and rejects fascism in the form of the Trump-Vance ticket in November.
