Aurora man facing felony weapons, battery and drug charges

A 51-year-old Aurora man is charged with multiple weapon, battery and drug felonies following an attack on a business acquaintance Wednesday near Aurora.

Kane County sheriff’s deputies responded shortly after noon to a business in an unincorporated area on the 600 block of Crane Street.

A male victim reported being beaten in the head with a firearm by Javier Morales, who the victim knew through work contacts. Morales had fled the scene after the attack. The victim gave deputies Morales’ last known address.

Authorities located Morales at his residence on the 2100 block of Best Place in Aurora. But he refused to comply with deputies and was taken into custody after being tased.

Inside his residence, a rifle and several high-capacity magazines and ammunition were discovered. The weapon used in the attack was not found.

Deputies secured a search warrant for Morales’ business on Crane Street and recovered two more rifles and additional ammunition.

Morales is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by someone with a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for possession of a short-barrel rifle and possession of a controlled substance.
