Our Saviour’s gives breathing room to grief in new group
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Naperville will look to explore the myriad facets of grief — how it changes perspectives and relationships as well as daily lives — in a new monthly discussion group starting Sunday, Aug. 25.
All who are experiencing grief are invited to be part of the group, which will center its discussions on the book “Grieving Room: Making Space for All the Hard Things After Death and Loss” by Leanne Friesen.
The Grieving Room group’s first meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, in the Fellowship Center of Our Saviour’s campus at 815 S. Washington St. in Naperville. Attendees are encouraged to read chapters 1-2 of the book before the meeting.
“When someone we love dies, we are forever changed, and our grief needs room,” said Our Saviour’s Associate Pastor Elisabeth Pynn Himmelman, who will lead the group. “We need room for imperfect goodbyes, changing faith, regret and rage, as well as room on our calendars. We need room to never ‘get over it’.”
All who are looking to give breathing room to their grief are invited to participate in the group, which will also meet Oct. 20, Nov. 17, Dec. 8 and into the new year.
Participants will support one another and be supported in their grief and will have the chance to explore questions, practices and prayers that encourage them to create space for grief’s many and varied emotions and experiences.
