Buffalo Creek project begins this month in Lake Zurich

Work begins this month in Lake Zurich to stabilize the banks along Buffalo Creek within the Bristol Trails Subdivision.

The project, which will address the eroded state of the creek, stormwater quality and reestablish the overall natural environment, will run through the fall and residents should expect minor inconveniences from construction traffic and restricted access within the work zone.

Officials say that over time the segment of Buffalo Creek has experienced significant erosion, leading to the loss of critical structures (timber walls) and an increase in invasive tree species.

The project will remove invasive tree species, install gabion basket retaining walls to reduce erosion, add flood storage, and restore native vegetation. The village received a state grant to pay for the project.
