Taste of Ravinia Farmers Market returns Aug. 7 for National Farmers Market Week

The Taste of Ravinia Farmers Market is back to celebrate National Farmers Market Week for its second year from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, located along Dean Avenue and in Jens Jensen Park in the Ravinia District of Highland Park. Attendees of all ages can enjoy this free celebration featuring "farmers market to table" lunch and dinner cooking demos, samples, recipes to use to shop for ingredients from market vendors, live music, family-friendly activities and more.

Taste of Ravinia was started by Ed Kugler, a local farmers market guru in 2023. Kugler has been spreading the word about the benefits of fresh ingredients for over 40 years, and is honored to collaborate with the Ravinia Neighborhood Association for this event.

Maya Rotman-Zaid, executive chef from Highland Park’s BellaRu Catering will host the cooking demonstrations, offering samples and full portions for purchase and recipes. Chef Rotman-Zaid will be joined by other local restaurants such as Ravinia Brewing Company and Viaggio. In addition, Ravinia Business District merchants will offer open houses, specials and some will have onsite booths in Jens Jensen Park.

The traditional weekly Ravinia Farmers Market will occur as usual from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the Taste of Ravinia Farmers Market from 2-8 p.m.

This family-friendly free event will offer multiple interactive activities, including games presented by the Park District of Highland Park, Hoverball Archery from 3-7 p.m. and more. Businesses will also offer giveaways and opportunities to win gift certificates and other prizes.

On-site Ravinia District vendors include Astra Coffee Roasters, Chunky Scone, LifeRhythms, Mil Colibris and Ravinia Brewing Company, to name a few.

• 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.: Gandy Gumbo (Delta Blues Trio)

• 1-2 p.m.: Tiny Country Duo (Country Duo)

• 2:15-3:15 p.m.: Diamondback Trio (Honky Tonk Trio)

• 3:30-4:45 p.m.: James Conway (Traditional Irish music)

• 5-6:15 p.m.: The Cellar Boys (Old Time Jazz Trio)

• 6:30-8 p.m.: Railheart (Grateful Dead Tribute)
