Stolen checks cashed for $5,000, Des Plaines police say

Eight checks were stolen out of a Des Plaines resident’s mailbox and cashed for about $5,000, police said Friday.

All the checks were stolen at once, between June 20 and July 9, out of a mailbox on the 1500 block of Whitcomb Avenue, police said.

The recipient information on the checks had been altered before they were cashed.

No other details were available.
