Police: Father, uncle invaded home, took child
Aurora police are investigating a home invasion where a child’s father, uncle and grandmother are accused of taking the boy out of state.
Authorities say that around 10:14 p.m. Monday, the father and uncle forced their way into a house on the 2500 block of Cheshire Drive. The two men then attacked the homeowners and took the 8-year-old boy, according to a news release from police.
Police say the grandmother waited outside in a car and drove them away. She was stopped roughly 30 minutes later in North Aurora without the men or the boy.
Police broadcast the case through Illinois’ Emergency Notification Plan and on social media. The Sullivan County, Indiana, sheriff’s office found the child and arrested the men at 3:19 a.m. Tuesday. The boy was unharmed.
The DuPage County state’s attorney’s office has charged Christopher A. Bearden, 35, and Joshua T. Bearden, 30, both of the same address in Rancho Cordova, California, with two felony counts of home invasion apiece, according to court records.
The charges allege that one victim suffered broken facial bones and a broken eye socket. The other victim sustained cuts. Both Beardens are awaiting extradition to Illinois.
In Indiana, the two were charged with kidnapping, according to the Sullivan County sheriff’s office.
The Kane County state’s attorney’s office charged Lisa C. Bearden, 58, of the 3000 block of Summit Place, Birmingham, Alabama, with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in a vehicle.
Aurora police say authorities found a rifle, a shotgun, a handgun, ammunition and firearm accessories in the vehicle. She was granted pretrial release on Tuesday.
“Your home should be a place where you feel safe and secure, especially for an 8-year-old child,” Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross said in the release. “Regardless of your relationship with a child, it does not give you a right to force your way into somebody else’s home and cause harm to others.”
Aurora detectives are still investigating the case. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call (630) 256-5500 or email tips@aurora.il.us.
