Village can show kindness, generosity

Dear Village of Arlington Heights, Mayor of Arlington Heights and the Arlington Heights Board Of Trustees:

In response to the article, “How will suburbs respond to SCOTUS decision allowing cities to fine, arrest homeless people?”, you, as the self-proclaimed “City Of Good Neighbors,” have a tremendous opportunity to make a difference in this world.

Look at your Southern corridor now being torn down. My guess is that exciting new shops and venues and condominiums will fill the space that was once the high-end Loheman’s Plaza and assorted other retail businesses and living spaces.

Rather than watch the cycle lather up, rinse and repeat and be torn down yet again in years to come, why not corroborate with Journeys, similar organizations and churches full of volunteers to turn that area into supportive housing and thriving businesses run by those living in such housing, uplifting them and allowing Arlington Heights, the City Of Good Neighbors to truly talk the talk and walk the walk?

Remember, these people already live in our community. Many grew up here. Rather than follow the ruling of a corrupt SCOTUS, why not lift these human beings up with purpose and create volunteer opportunities for our youth as well as a chance to support such businesses so that all benefit?

Just a thought. What a wonderful world it could be if only we could all set our irrational fears aside and live lives of kindness and generosity.
