Consider all facts on affordable housing

I am writing in response to a letter published July 22 regarding affordable housing in Arlington Heights. The submission is misrepresenting the number of affordable housing units in the city I live in. There are multiple types of affordable housing alternatives. The 147 quoted units by the Housing Task Force is not including all types. For example, Section 8. I believe this to be reckless behavior.

My neighborhood has a 190-unit development called Linden Place that is Section 8 which is a government program that provides rental assistance to families with low incomes, seniors and people with disabilities.

Organizations such as the Housing Task Force should represent the numbers that are accurate within the village of Arlington Heights and not mislead people/residents/taxpayers. Our village has this information and has been sharing it at Village Board meetings regarding the proposed Grace Terrace Development. Nine developments and 643 units.

I want this to be shared so people know the facts and can make their own informed decisions on whether Arlington Heights has adequate affordable housing today. Also, one neighborhood such as ours should not carry the burden of affordable housing. Today our neighborhood has 30% of the total 643 in Arlington Heights.
