Elgin police kill dog that was attacking its owners
Elgin police shot a dog to death Thursday afternoon as it was attacking its owners, officials said.
The attack happened around 4:52 p.m. on the 900 block of High Street, according to a news release that the department posted on Facebook.
A man and woman, both 28, were outside walking the dog when it attacked them, authorities said.
The two were taken to a hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, according to the release.
A police spokesman said authorities are still determining the breed and size of the dog and whether it had a record of biting or other incidents.
