One dead after fire in attached garage of Buffalo Grove house
One person is dead following a fire Monday in an attached garage of a house in Buffalo Grove, authorities said.
Buffalo Grove firefighters responded to the home in the 600 block of Woodhollow Lane at 10:22 a.m., officials said.
First responders encountered heavy flames in the garage that were spreading to the house and began an aggressive interior attack with hose lines to both the garage and house, according to a fire department news release.
One occupant was located in the home during a search, officials said.
The victim — who was not identified by authorities Monday — was pronounced dead at the scene. The release of identification is pending an autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Firefighters concentrated much of their attack on flames emanating from the two-car garage. The front of a sedan and SUV parked on the driveway were charred, siding on the two-story house melted, and smoke appeared to spread throughout, authorities said.
The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes and extinguished.
How the fire started wasn’t immediately known, but officials from Buffalo Grove and the Illinois State Fire Marshal remained on scene throughout the afternoon investigating.
Firefighters from 11 area fire departments responded to the fire Monday.
