Our Saviour’s and St. Timothy Lutheran to host Worship in the Park July 21
On Sunday, July 21, Naperville’s Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and St. Timothy Lutheran Church will host a special “Worship in the Park” service at 10 a.m. at the Naperville Community Concert Center (aka the Naperville band shell), 55 Concert Lane.
All are invited and welcome to attend the service, which will feature a children’s sermon, combined choirs from both congregations, a worship band, handbells and more. Additionally, family games in the park will be available after the service.
“We are so excited to get together with our friends from St. Timothy for this service,” said Our Saviour’s senior pastor Brian Wise. “We are friends together in the ELCA (the Chicago-based denomination to which both churches belong). Our youth groups have teamed on mission events and fellowship activities for years; and we can’t wait to welcome the community to this joyful event in the heart of downtown Naperville.”
“Worshipping in creation brings such joy and peace,” said St. Timothy associate pastor Sarah Swindall. “And doing so together with friends in faith, bringing together our musicians and choirs and pastoral staff outdoors on a summer morning, really is a celebration of beloved community.”
St. Timothy lead pastor Jason Anderson will give the message at Worship in the Park. Pastors from both churches say they hope to welcome those strolling by and those who haven’t attended a faith service recently.
“For those who are maybe curious about church today, or those who don’t currently have a faith community they call home, Worship in the Park will be a low-key, no-pressure look at what church can be — truly welcoming, genuinely friendly and encouraging,” Wise said.
Both churches, in their welcome statements, note that they joyfully welcome all to worship, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability, family structure, sexual orientation or spiritual background. “Whether you are a believer, doubter or seeker, we welcome all because God welcomes all,” St. Timothy Lutheran notes on its website.
In the event of rain, the service will take place at Our Saviour’s Celebration Campus, located at 919 S. Washington St. in Naperville.
Those who bring their bulletin from Sunday’s service to Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, located near the band shell at 112 S. Washington St., that morning can receive 10% off their purchase and a discounted price of two for $20 on bagged coffee.
