GreenMan Theatre announces trio of audience favorites from ‘8 to the Bar 2024’ Play Festival

GreenMan Theatre Troupe in Elmhurst has announced the three most-popular plays performed during its recent “8 to the Bar 2024” Play Festival, as determined by audience vote during the show’s run July 12-14.

Nine 10-minute plays were performed during each sold-out production held at Mystic Vines Comedy in Villa Park.

The winning performances for “8 to the Bar 2024” are:

• First place: “Just Desserts” written by David MacGregor of Howell, Mich.

• Second place: “The Resurrectionists” by Robert J. LeBlanc of Newburyport, Mass.

• Third place: “The Curse” by Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend of Chicago, Ill.

For GreenMan Theatre’s fourth-annual production, “8 to the Bar 2024,” playwrights from around the globe submitted short plays spurred by the topic “Revenge is Sweet — or is it?”

Two hundred plays were initially received from 29 states, as well as Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore and the Canary Islands.

In its 21st season, GreenMan Theatre Troupe is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide a source of cultural enrichment and pride for the community by presenting diverse, quality productions and providing opportunities for personal growth in the theatrical arts.

GreenMan Theatre Troupe has been presenting plays in Elmhurst since being founded in 2003. Past productions include “Dracula,” “Pride and Prejudice” and “Doubtful Abbey.” GreenMan also offers classes and workshops for members and the community and welcomes new members and participants in all aspects of theater production. GreenMan programs are partially supported by Explore Elmhurst, as well as other individual and corporate donations.
