Con. Krishnamoorthi awards federal funds for Poplar Creek Library's infrastructure upgrades

On July 1, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi presented Poplar Creek Public Library District with a check for $1.66 million dollars in federal funding. This significant investment, secured by the congressman through a Community Project Funding grant, will support essential infrastructure improvements at the library’s main branch.

In 2009, the main library facility reopened after a referendum and remodeling project that more than doubled the size, with a new addition making the building approximately 98,000 square feet. This expansion, celebrated for its architectural excellence, earned the library the top spot on Library Journal’s inaugural list of New Landmark Libraries.

“This generous support from Con. Krishnamoorthi would not have been possible without the dedication and advocacy of board of trustees treasurer, Asad Khan,” said Ron Pauli, interim director of the Poplar Creek Public Library District. “These monies will enable us to make necessary upgrades that will greatly benefit our patrons, allow us to continue offering valuable services and programs, and enhance our facilities.”

The check presentation featured community leaders and public officials coming together to celebrate the upcoming renovations, which will further enhance the library’s ability to provide an enriching, empowering, and modern environment for patrons of all ages. The infrastructure improvements will enhance the library’s services to the community and maintain a high level of exemplary response to community needs.
