Basement fire damages Algonquin home

Carpentersville firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that left an Algonquin townhouse uninhabitable Saturday.

Firefighters were called to the 0 to 100 block of Rose Hill Court in Algonquin about 2:33 a.m. Saturday after a resident of the home heard popping noises from the basement. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the garage and determined there was a fire in the basement of the home.

The resident was able to exit the home before firefighters arrived. No one was injured.

Firefighters from the Rutland Dundee and Hanover Township fire protection districts along with East Dundee, West Dundee, Algonquin and Huntley fire departments assisted in extinguishing the fire.

Damage to the home, which was deemed uninhabitable, was estimated at $100,000, according to the Carpentersville Fire Department.
