Man dies in Aurora motorcycle crash

A 48-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a car in Aurora Friday night, police said.

Around 6:44 p.m., police and fire personnel were called to North Orchard and Sullivan roads after a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a 2009 Nissan Versa. When officers arrived, they found a man with serious injuries who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a Facebook post Saturday.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Christopher Joeckel of DeKalb.

The intersection was closed for several hours while traffic investigators reconstructed the crash.

During a preliminary investigation, officers determined the Nissan was traveling north on Orchard Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Sullivan Road. The motorcycle was traveling south on Orchard and was unable to stop while the Nissan was completing its turn, police said in the post.

The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Nissan, police said.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division at (630) 256-5330 or email tips@aurora.il.us.
