Glen Ellyn names new village attorney

Glen Ellyn’s new village attorney will assume his role with a swearing-in on July 22.

Paul Stephanides comes to Glen Ellyn with a legal career spanning more than 34 years. He most recently served as Oak Park’s village attorney for the past decade.

He succeeds Greg Mathews, who retired earlier this month after 10 years as village attorney. Mathews, a former village president, also was honored as the grand marshal of the Glen Ellyn Fourth of July parade.

Stephanides previously was an attorney and partner with the Chicago-based law firm Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas, Lifton & Taylor, Ltd., where he chaired the municipal law practice group and worked with a number of local municipalities.

Stephanides’ areas of expertise include real estate, land use and zoning, litigation, construction law, election law, labor and employment law, prosecutions and counseling for local government boards and commissions.

“Glen Ellyn was seeking an experienced attorney to work closely with the Village Board and management team to assist with a wide variety of community projects,” Village Manager Mark Franz said in a statement. “Paul is very excited about working with this experienced team, continuing the success of Glen Ellyn and contributing to its growth.”

Stephanides holds law and bachelor’s degrees from DePaul University.
