Former Carol Stream village manager to be honored at Saturday ceremony

A white oak tree near Carol Stream’s Historic Farmhouse will be dedicated to the memory of former Carol Stream Village Manager Gregory J. Bielawski.

The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the farmhouse, 301 W. Lies Road.

Bielawski, who died in 2022, was Carol Stream’s village manager from 1980 to 2002.

While aiding a period of rapid development in the village, Bielawski also strove to keep some of Carol Stream’s rural roots, said Carole Ellermeier, a past president on the executive board of the Carol Stream Historical Society.

She said the farmhouse and adjacent Hampe Park were among the sites Bielawski worked to retain.

“Greg championed and celebrated and honored the past,” Ellermeier said. “He wanted to preserve some of the elements of what came before.”

The public is invited to attend the dedication. After the ceremony, there will be tours of the farmhouse and an open house from 1 to 3 p.m.
