Beware generalizations about GOP

In your June 7 edition of Your Views, Raleigh Sutton made a ridiculous unfounded statement. First it sounded as though he had a problem with being raised by a father who worked very hard to give him the best life he could. The fact that he kept his finances and chose not to give to charities was his choice. I am sure you didn’t complain when you received the inheritance.

Most importantly, categorizing all Republicans as takers not givers is insulting to the core. How do you know the person standing next to you at the food bank is not Republican? Do you interrogate them? I can tell you in my volunteering experience both in Illinois and Fort Myers, nobody cares what political party you belong to.

We are there to do whatever is asked. Likewise, when I volunteer at Ronald McDonald House in Fort Myers and become close to families that have unbelievably difficult situations with very ill children, I don’t care who is volunteering with me.

Also, I have many friends who choose to vote Democratic. I never let politics ruin good relationships. We leave politics to the idiots running the country. So, I challenge the writer to get to know some Republicans. Who knows, you might find new friendships. Good luck.
