Morton Grove man charged in auto theft denied pretrial release

Officials said a Morton Grove man was denied pretrial release Friday morning after being charged with the theft of a vehicle on Wednesday night.

Isaiah Roach, 19, faces one felony count of armed robbery, one felony count of a stolen motor vehicle and one felony count of theft.

According to authorities, Roach met with the victim at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Elmhurst, wanting to buy a car for $14,000, found in an ad on Facebook Marketplace.

During the transaction, Roach is accused of threatening the victim and demanding the keys to the vehicle. The victim said he threw his key fob at Roach. He then drove off and was found by Evanston police when he was pumping gas.

Police said they took him into custody and discovered the victim’s key fob.

His arraignment is scheduled for July 15.
