Year two brings continued growth for moving and hauling company
When Erica Fine and Matt Paison launched their College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving franchise in 2022, they expected to work hard, be busy and hoped for long-term success. What they didn’t expect was to find success so quickly.
Recently chosen as a Top Pick in both the Best Moving Company and Best Junk Removal categories in the Daily Herald reader’s poll, their College Hunks franchise has flourished under their direction.
“It’s really amazing that we could generate this much name recognition and client support in just two years,” Fine said. “It’s really a testament to our brand values and the fantastic team of H.U.N.K.S. we have built.”
Since launching in the Northwest Cook County area, Fine and Paison have been awarded a second service area in Northern Cook County, won the internal College Hunks Hauling & Moving Junk employee competition, exceeded $1 million in annual business, and made significant contributions to local service agencies.
“We’re very proud of the success we’ve had on the business side,” said Paison. “But we’re especially proud of the relationships we have built with various organizations like WINGS, Refugee Community Connections, and others where we can donate material we haul away. This keeps so much out of landfills and provides quality items to people who need them.”
With a service area that stretches from Palatine to Skokie and Arlington Heights to Northwest Chicago, the bright orange and green College Hunks vehicles are becoming quite ubiquitous on suburban roadways.
“It’s a fun brand to be a part of, but one that is really based on a model that is designed to delight the client in every way,” said Fine. “We’re extremely busy but are having a great deal of fun building our success story.”
Fine and Paison have both become active in community organizations including multiple chambers of commerce, Rotary clubs, and business groups. The time spent being active participants in various groups is important to the two entrepreneurs.
“We’ve met and shared ideas with so many peers in a wide range of business segments,” said Paison. “It really invigorates us and helps us fine tune every aspect of our operation.”
