Man sentenced to 50 years for rape

An Elgin man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for sexual assault.
Zanzibah T. Stewart, 45, of the 1300 block of Fairwood Drive, was sentenced on June 11.
In January, a Kane County jury found him guilty of aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault and aggravated unlawful restraint. He was accused of threatening a woman with a knife and then sexually assaulting her on Nov. 8, 2020. Stewart knew the victim.
Stewart will have to serve about 42 years before being eligible for parole. He received credit for the 3½ years he spent in the Kane County jail awaiting trial.
He will have to register for life as a sex offender.
