Justice system did not function properly

Your Sunday article on 6/12/24, written by Lisa Mascaro and Mary Clare Jalonick, “GOP joins Trump’s attacks on Justice System” should be pursued vehemently by Republicans as well as people who believe in a justice system that is fair to all, regardless of your affiliation to a specific political party.

The formation of the New York Justice System was established using a judge, jury, a team of prosecutors and a team of defense attorneys with the understanding that justice would prevail.

Yet, looking at the case from the perspective of this writer, you have a judge who was a Biden donor, a jury represented by partisan New Yorkers, a district attorney who ran his campaign on bringing down Donald Trump, a lead prosecutor who was formally a senior DOJ official, stepping down to lead the prosecution. Add to those scenarios the fact that defense attorneys were overruled on many of their objections and one would question, was this a fair trial as defined by our rules of law?

Countless Republican and Democratic legal analysts expressed their thoughts that this was an unnecessary trial. Why spend taxpayers’ dollars on a conviction that some say was a misdemeanor? The New York DA and his justice system should focus on criminals that assault New York Police Officers and commit crimes against their citizens.

The House Judiciary Republican Chairman, or for that matter, any leader of the Republican or Democratic party, have the right to challenge any justice system when either party believes a wrongful legal case is being politically adjudicated. Perhaps this trial has embellished our awareness of how our justice system should function. This case should open our eyes, as citizens of the United States, to what the blindfolded “Lady of Justice” represents.
