North Shore School District 112 approves 5-year contract with teachers

The North Shore School District 112 Board of Education approved a five-year collective bargaining agreement with the North Shore Education Association at Tuesday’s meeting. The approval follows several months of amicable negotiations and ratification by the NSEA on June 5. The new contract will be in effect from the first day of the 2024-25 school year until the day before the start of the 2029-30 school year. It marks a significant milestone in the district’s continued commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive educational environment.

“We are delighted with the outcome of the negotiation process,” Andi Simon, the NSEA’s chief negotiation chair, said. “The process was a shining example of collaboration and positivity. Throughout our meetings, our teams engaged in open dialogue, exchanged viewpoints and considered various perspectives. Our union is thrilled to have partnered with the school board to establish a fair contract that not only benefits our students but also honors the dedication and professionalism of our educators.”

Under the agreement, North Shore District 112 teachers will receive an increase in compensation ranging between 4% and 6% in each of the five years of the contract. Additionally, the deal includes increases to extra duty stipends, an expanded number of days available for parental leave, and a more collaborative use of preparation time.

“The members of the NSEA are integral to our district and community," Board President Lisa Hirsh said. "The board is thrilled to have reached this agreement and feels fortunate to be able to rely on such dedicated and talented individuals. We are grateful for the cordial negotiations and for the commitment of NSEA members in providing District 112 students with the highest quality education.”

The NSEA represents 397 teachers across nine schools within the district. Their members resoundingly approved the agreement with a 99% approval rate. This accord follows last year's five-year contract with the North Shore Support Staff Association, which encompasses administrative assistants, custodians, maintenance workers, nurses and paraprofessionals.
