Ethics are an issue at all levels
I applaud the Daily Herald for objectively addressing the ethics issue facing SCOTUS with their May 28 editorial. Ethics in the political arena are sorely missing at all levels of government.
Senators Durbin and Whitehouse are asking that SCOTUS establish ethical reforms in their institution, and rightly so. Going a step further, every level of leadership from school boards to the White House should address these concerns.
If you are biblically inclined, Jesus said in Matthew 7:3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” If this doesn’t interest you, perhaps you’ve heard it said, “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” Both imply that each cleans their own house first.
Regardless of our political persuasion, we should demand that those we elect to office look at themselves and their ethics. If they don’t include respect for others regardless of race, religion, party, gender and the like, they have a lot of work to do.
Life would be so much better if others cleaned up their act. But remember, you are someone else’s “others.”
