Our Saviour’s summer movie series kicks off with ‘Barbie’ June 12
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, with two campuses in central Naperville, will kick off a summer film series with a screening of the 2023 PG-13 film “Barbie” on Wednesday, June 12. It will be at 5:30 p.m. at the church’s Celebration Campus, 919 S. Washington St.
All are invited to the free movie screening, which is part of the church’s new “Courageous Conversations: Faith & Film” series. The monthly showings will start at 5:30 p.m. in the church gym and feature closed captioning. No registration or RSVP is required.
“Movies tell powerful stories of the human experience, and while not always explicitly 'religious,' the stories often raise theological themes and questions,” said Our Saviour’s Associate Pastor Elisabeth Pynn Himmelman. The “Faith & Film” series will encourage attendees to think about popular movies from a faith perspective, she says.
Participants are invited to bring chairs, blankets and snacks; some tables and chairs will be set up for use. “Each film will be introduced with a time of courageous conversation about how the story might speak to our lives of faith,” Pynn Himmelman said.
Additional movie showings at Our Saviour’s Celebration Campus this summer will be “Hidden Figures” (2016, PG) on Wednesday, July 17, and Disney Pixar’s “WALL-E” (2008, G) on Sunday, Aug. 11.
