Elgin Golden K Kiwanis welcomes all to its weekly speaker presentations

Elgin’s Golden K Kiwanis Club invites everyone to attend our weekly meetings to learn about local programs or institutions. There is always time to interact with the speaker after the presentation.

On May 1, the club welcomed Dan Fox with his insider look at how the Grand Victoria Casino came to Elgin. He was on Elgin City Council at the time. May 8 featured Angie DeLeon, office manager and volunteer coordinator at PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), which has managed to rehouse 75% of its clients who work through case managers to help find them affordable housing.

On May 15, Ron Lange of Elgin Hall of Fame spoke about Elgin teams and athletes from the 1940s-’50s. His talk sparked many a memory. On May 22, they welcomed Amy Daeschler, senior manager of grants and development at CASA Kane County. CASA’s main goal is to return children to their home. Many end up in foster homes and a few are adopted.

Colleen and Dwayne Bosse of Huntley Lifestyle Community spoke on May 29. They manage an attractive senior living community behind Culver’s on Route 47 in Huntley.

The community is invited to attend the June programs. The speakers will be: June 5: Maureen Manning, director of Community Crisis Center; June 12: David Sam, president Elgin Community College; June 19: Mickie Miller, executive director of Senior Services; and June 26: Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain.
