Gosswein, Chicago Dogs shut out Cleburne

Brooks Gosswein’s mastery on the mound kept the Chicago Dogs in the win column with a 6-0 defeat of Cleburne Friday night.

Dogs lefty starting pitcher Brooks Gosswein was the story of the day. The starter had struggled in his first three starts with the ballclub, owning a 7.42 ERA through his first three starts.

Gosswein dusted off the prior struggles, tossing eight scoreless innings in his fourth start of the season. The lefty was almost untouchable, allowing only two hits, while striking out seven throughout the long start

Gosswein’s excellence was backed up early. The Dogs offense collected three runs in the first inning when Jesus Lujano, Narciso Crook and Jacob Teter scored.

After a 3-run first inning, bats continued to produce. Brantley Bell opened the fifth inning with a leadoff double, later touching home. The team scored additional insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
