Use elections to get lawmakers’ attention

Having read several recent letters on the requirement for annual driver tests for seniors, all endorsing an end to this requirement currently still a part of renewing drivers licenses in Illinois, apparently one of the only states still with such a law, I recently called both of my legislators in my district to seek their positions on this matter. I called twice in two weeks and left detailed instructions on their answering machines as to where to reach me, along with requests for their position and my position as well, supporting such an end to this requirement.

Neither Terra Costa Howard nor Suzy Glowick Hilton apparently felt the need to seek my input on this matter, as I have yet to receive any input from either of their offices. From this apparent lack of interest on their part to show any interest in truly representing their constituents, I will remember their lack of response to me and suggest others in their districts also take this as a reminder when it’s time to again select our representatives in the state legislature.

I will be sure to drive myself to the voting booth, assuming I pass the next driving test I and so many other seniors in Illinois are currently required to take, as opposed to those seniors in the rest of this country. Apparently collecting their state payrolls funded by the taxpayers does not necessarily equate to serving their constituents.
