Aurora’s GreenFest goes ‘electric’ on June 8

Aurora GreenFest will return to Prisco Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The free and green-minded festival will have a full day of activities, speakers, food trucks, and more than 70 vendors, both indoors and outdoors.

This year, Aurora GreenFest will be focused on switching over to electric options. A car show will feature electric vehicles in McCullough Park, 150 W. Illinois Ave.

Tracey McFadden from Fox Valley Electric Auto Association will speak on the indoor stage at noon.

Additional speakers include Kris Murphy with Climate Reality Chicago at 11 a.m. and Gary Swick with Friends of the Fox River at 1 p.m.

“Recent Illinois and federal laws have provided great incentives for renewable energy, electrical vehicles, and energy efficiency,” said festival founder Mavis Bates, of Aurora.

Bates said that Aurora GreenFest is as much about education as it is a fun day to celebrate the environment. “Our visitors will be looking for ways to take advantage of these important rebates and incentives,” she said.

Some of the fun includes starting the day with free yoga outside with Breathe Grow Change at 10 a.m. The public is encouraged to bring their own yoga mat. Aurora Public Library will then lead storytime in the park at 11 a.m.

At noon, Bobbi Reed with Lyrical Lyra will perform aerial arts outdoors. The County Line Jam Band will perform songs from Grateful Dead’s catalog at 2 p.m.

Food trucks include Serna’s Grill, Harvey’s Fire Box, Tacos Mario’s, Buddy Mac’s Eat N Run, Turn Lemons, and more.

Aurora GreenFest is independently organized by Aurora Greenlights, a local group affiliated with The Conservation Foundation. This is the festival’s 12th year.
