Why gas station plan is a serious issue
I wish to provide some feedback regarding Village President Horcher’s comment about the proposed GasNWash being a small issue. No, this is not a small issue. What was there previously was a strip mall with a small gas station. What is proposed is a large truck stop, that needs to sell 50,000 gallons of diesel fuel on average every month.
The strip mall didn’t sell propane tanks. It didn’t have a car wash. It wasn’t a 24/7 operation with a two-story canopy lit 24 hours either (talk about light pollution). It didn’t have any toxic chemicals within 300 feet of people’s residences.
The current proposal needs to be able to provide all those entities, in addition to being within three miles of an interstate or freeway so GasNWash can provide gaming and liquor sales at this site.
So, to all the village and planning commission trustees along with the mayor, why don’t you do what a Chicago mayor once did. Move you and your family over to any of the residences that are located in Wheeling or Arlington Heights and prove to us that this is only a minor issue.
