Unsafe highway

I am an older driver and travel up and down on Route 53. Back in the day, the cops would be parked under the bridge at Dundee Road watching for speeders. But today, this is not true. Route 53 has become a racetrack, especially between Palatine Road and Lake Cook Road.

The speed limit is 55, but most drivers go 80 in this area. If I am going 80, some people on motorcycles or hot cars, or even a family car go over 100. I have drivers pass me on the shoulder even though two lanes are available to pass me.

This always scares me as I do not expect anyone to pass me on that side. Others weave in and out of the traffic, just to get one car ahead or beat everyone to Lake Cook. Now days, a senior driver has to have nerves of steel to drive Route 53.
